NOMAD BUILDER: On Assignment
Multi-camera Docu-Series/Philanthropy
Creator: Nick Jardine
Host: Nick Jardine
Producers: Nicole Franklin and Nick Jardine
Zambia, Guatemala, indigenous parts of Canada, Australia… these are just a few of the destinations where host and nomad builder Nick Jardine plans to lend a helping hand to communities in need of restoration. By applying top design skills while leading a small construction crew across the globe and employing a few handy volunteers, Jardine and his ambitious adventurers will provide the ultimate off-the-map experience, highlighting the best of a location’s most valuable resources and revitalizing communities.
During this series of one-off documentary films, popular television contractor Nick Jardine travels with a tool belt in the name of good. Jardine who was born in South Africa and raised in Australia was the head contractor in the first season of HGTV's Love It or List It Too (Vancouver) and the popular CBC DocZone special Weather Gone Wild. Jardine has worked all over the world and is a leading expert in capacity building and sustainability. With a very lean construction crew Jardine will work on location in the aforementioned countries—including the city of Newark, NJ for the U.S. experience—and feature geo-specific design concepts and construction in order to enact a rapid response to communities need. Cameras under the direction of award-winning documentary filmmaker Nicole Franklin will capture these life-enhancing renovations and highlight the residents of these communities and the unique cultural experiences these countries have to offer. Volunteers, who include residents and vacationing adventurers, will receive on-the-job skills training and become part of a global online movement to continue to spread the good news about participating locales.
As a team the crew behind Nomad Builder will heal communities—block by block, village by village, from community space to town center—around the world in record time. Nomad Builder: On Assignment spins the globe and identifies a small population in need. Within one episode television audiences will get an inside view of these destinations, some with areas of conflict that often grace the headlines. Viewers will witness the attention to detail and problem-solving design skills of Jardine and his team, as well as engage with builders who sign up for the travel opportunity of a lifetime. During these hour-long programs human interaction unites cultures, while showcasing the main character being the country itself. Also a scene-stealer: The now tangible potential in its people and resources.
Zambia, Guatemala, Canada, Australia and Newark, NJ have already extended offers of grant support, and tax credits in the case of Canada, toward this series of documentaries. Nomad Builder: On Assignment has also designed an equally involved web component. Documentary Running Time: 54 Minutes.
